Unit one (AS) The Materials, Components and Application written paper (2 hours) tests the candidates knowledge of fibres, fabrics and components used in fashion and furnishing products. The examination is worth 50% of the marks at AS and 25% of the examination overall. Unit two (AS) The Learning through Designing and Making component is a piece of coursework, completed over 50 hours. The task could be a single project, two smaller projects or a portfolio of work. The coursework will consist of a design folder and resultant practical work. The coursework is worth 50% at AS and 25% of the examination overall. Unit three (A2) The Design and Manufacture written paper (2 hours) tests the candidates knowledge of designers, processes and manufacture. This paper includes synoptic assessment. The paper is worth 25% of the total result at A2. Unit Four (A2) The Design and Making Practice component is coursework to be produced over 60 hours. This will be a design folder and resultant practical work. The coursework is worth 25% of the total result at A2. Both examination papers are available in June only.
