AS Course Students produce a skills based Portfolio based on a range of themes. They are required to experiment with an array of media, techniques and processes. Their research skills are developed through the investigation of a variety of artists and disciplines. The year ends with an externally set Controlled Assignment. At this point they will create a project, chosen from an examination paper, much the same as the process at GCSE. The key elements of both the Portfolio and Assignment are observation, investigation, experimentation, development and planning – both in terms of the students’ own work and in their responses to the work of others. A Level Course Students specialise in order to resolve ideas and intentions gathered in the AS year. The Personal Investigation allows students to consolidate and develop practical concerns whilst demanding focused and substantial responses to the work of others. This investigation can be based on a topic of their choice and will take the form of a written essay supported by a body of practical work. The year ends with an externally set Controlled Assignment. Any work created for AS and A Level can be used for interviews at Art College or University.
