General content at AS / Year 1 There are two units covering the following topics: Memory - How memory works i.e. why we remember and why we forget Attachment - Importance of early relationships and their influence on adult behaviour. Approaches - Theories in psychology. Psychopathology - Causes and treatment of mental disorders. Social - Looks at why people obey/conform to others and the Ethical implications of psychological research. Research Methods - Designing investigations including some statistical interpretation. General content at A2 / Year 2 Involves a more in-depth analysis of some of the above topics. Psychological theories are studied within a more specific/everyday context. The following topics are covered: Biopsychology - Stress response and other biological processes. Relationships - How they are formed, maintained and breakdown. Stress or schizophrenia. Aggression or forensic psychology. Skills Students will be required to think carefully about the human mind and about behaviours. They will be required to show evidence of: understanding and explanation through discussion and written work; an ability to analyse data and formulate conclusions; and a capacity to conduct in-depth study. Because of the level and type of work involved in the ‘Stress’ module, students must have either a Grade B in GCSE Biology. Also there is a key requirement for a high skill level in English.
