General content at AS / Year 1 There are two units covering the following topics:  Memory - How memory works i.e. why we remember and why we forget  Attachment - Importance of early relationships and their influence on adult behaviour.  Approaches - Theories in psychology.  Psychopathology - Causes and treatment of mental disorders.  Social - Looks at why people obey/conform to others and the Ethical implications of psychological research.  Research Methods - Designing investigations including some statistical interpretation. General content at A2 / Year 2 Involves a more in-depth analysis of some of the above topics. Psychological theories are studied within a more specific/everyday context. The following topics are covered:  Biopsychology - Stress response and other biological processes.  Relationships - How they are formed, maintained and breakdown.  Stress or schizophrenia.  Aggression or forensic psychology. Skills Students will be required to think carefully about the human mind and about behaviours. They will be required to show evidence of: understanding and explanation through discussion and written work; an ability to analyse data and formulate conclusions; and a capacity to conduct in-depth study. Because of the level and type of work involved in the ‘Stress’ module, students must have either a Grade B in GCSE Biology. Also there is a key requirement for a high skill level in English.
