This subject will offer students the opportunity to combine a theoretical understanding of the mass media in society and methods for analysing media texts (e.g. television programmes films, advertising, and the press) with the development of practical skills for media production. The balance of theory and practical work means that students will learn about how media industries operate, research and investigate issues and debates about the role of the media in society and analyse texts. For AS: Foundation Portfolio unit G321: Production of a preliminary and main film, plus a written blog. Key Media Concepts unit G322: Unseen textual analysis of TV drama. Evaluation and analysis of Audiences and Institutions For A2: Advanced Portfolio unit G324: Production of three media products and blog Critical Perspectives unit G325: Three questions to be completed. Two will evaluate production work and the other will explore contemporary media issues.
