This qualification is linear. AS/Year 1: Content is split into four teaching modules: Module 1 – Development of practical skills in chemistry • Module 2 – Foundations in chemistry • Module 3 – Periodic table and energy • Module 4 – Core organic chemistry. Also 6 set practicals will need to be completed. For A2: Two teaching modules: Module 5 – Physical chemistry and transition elements • Module 6 – Organic chemistry and analysis and another 6 set practicals

Name: Chemistry (AS and A2) Qualification title: GCE A level Qualification type: GCE A/AS Level or equivalent Assessment AS: 2 exam papers (70 marks each) covering all 4 modules and 6 set practicals. A2 3 exam papers (100, 100 & 70 marks respectively) covering all 6 sections and 12 set practicals. 20% of the overall assessment of A-level Chemistry will contain mathematical skills equivalent to Level 2 or above. At least 15% of the overall assessment of A-level Chemistry will assess knowledge, skills and understanding in relation to practical work.
