This is a new specification for AS and A Level History which is intended to ignite and engage your interest in the past. As part of the A Level course you will: study the history of more than one country and state in addition to the study of British History undertake a thematic study, covering an extended period of 100 years explore a topic in history that you have a personal interest in through the coursework element The aim is to create independent learners, critical thinkers and decision makers: skills that make you stand out as you progress to higher education. History is a subject valued by employers and universities.

Name: History Qualification title: GCE AS level Qualification type: GCE A/AS Level or equivalent Assessment AS History This is a stand-alone qualification and does not contribute to the A level course. The AS History qualification is made up of two mandatory units which are assessed at the end of Year 12 with AS examination papers: Unit 1 is a British period study and enquiry which will be chosen from one of 13 units which range from Alfred the Great, through the Medieval, Tudor and Industrial periods to more recent history with a study of Churchill. This is a source based examination. Unit 2 is a Non-British period study. You will study The USA in the 19th Century: Westward Expansion and the Civil War 1803-1890. This is an examined unit.
