Chemistry is a popular choice for A-level because of its exciting experiments and applications to many real life contexts. Students who choose the subject will study it over two years. Millom School Science Department follows the AQA syllabus for Chemistry. The study of Chemistry provides vital understanding for the way materials and chemicals can be used to make a whole range of exciting products, from plastics, perfumes and prosthetic limbs to how chemicals work in living organisms. Students are encouraged to develop their skills as a chemist including carrying out many practical reactions and making interesting products such as aspirin. The stand alone AS qualification includes all of the types of questions that are in the A-level, but at a lower level, helping students to progress towards the more challenging A-level.
