In Year 12 students study the course for 4 hours per week, exploring a title chosen by the candidate using a variety of creative textile techniques and design methods. Students present a ‘Portfolio’ of work which includes mounted sheets of work, sketchbooks and finished textile pieces which may be textile wall art, a garment, installation or 3D textiles, or a combination of all.
Name: Art & Design (Textiles) Qualification title: GCE AS level Qualification type: GCE A/AS Level or equivalent Assessment AS Level Textiles This is a stand-alone qualification and does not contribute to the A level course. Component 1 - Portfolio (no time limit). The emphasis of this component will be on the development of understanding and skills using an appropriate range of materials, processes and techniques. Students should produce a collection of materials that exemplifies work carried out during the AS course. This component makes up 60% of the AS qualification. Component 2 - Externally set assignment (preparatory work plus a supervised 10 hours). In the 10 hours students must produce a finished outcome or a series of related finished outcomes, informed by their preparatory work. This component makes up 40% of the AS qualification.
