The Fine Art course provides an opportunity to use a wide range of fine art materials including ceramic, photography and sculpture. Students will be made aware of new technologies as well as traditional processes in art and design. It is expected that students will develop and improve skills and techniques when engaging in their own portfolio and exam work. Students must show knowledge and understanding of how ideas, feelings and meanings can be conveyed and interpreted in images and artefacts within their studies.
Name: Art & Design (Fine Art) Qualification title: GCE AS level Qualification type: GCE A/AS Level or equivalent Assessment This is a stand-alone qualification and does not contribute to the A level course. Component 1 - Portfolio (no time limit). The emphasis of this component will be on the development of understanding and skills using an appropriate range of materials, processes and techniques. Students should produce a collection of materials that exemplifies work carried out during the AS course. This component makes up 60% of the AS qualification. Component 2 - Externally set assignment (preparatory work plus a supervised 10 hours). In the 10 hours students must produce a finished outcome or a series of related finished outcomes, informed by their preparatory work. This component makes up 40% of the AS qualification.
