Critical Thinking is different to other subjects at AS / A-Level. Rather than facts, candidates learn to analyse and evaluate ideas and arguments, and how to construct clear, logical and coherent lines of reasoning. Currently, AS Critical Thinking is offered as an extra AS to those students who have demonstrated particular academic ability at GCSE and who would benefit from the extra challenge the course poses. It is run as a part of the enrichment programme, Wednesday’s periods 6 &7. It is expected that once students commit themselves to the course, they will attend all lessons, complete work set, and will sit the examination in the summer of Year 12. There is no coursework component.
