D&T Product Design

UPDATED 20160324 13:23:48

Product Design (3-D Design) will help you take a broad view of design and technology, developing your capacity to design and make products and appreciate the complex relations between design, materials, manufacture and marketing. The specification will provide you with the opportunity to design and make a product in both years of the course. During year 12, you will focus specifically on the design and make of a lamp product. You are required to research around the project before developing concepts through use of sketches and computer aided design. These concepts are then modelled before manufacturing takes place using a combination of woods, plastic and metal. The process is very similar in year 13 however; you are given the opportunity to choose your own project brief/focus. A popular choice for project focus is environmentally friendly and sustainable architecture where the laser cutter is implemented to aid product manufacture.
