Component 1 – Performance 30% A solo and ensemble performance of between 6 – 8 minutes duration. Component 2 – Composition 30% Two compositions of between 5 -7 minutes duration. One of the compositions will be in response to an exam board set brief. The other composition will be in a style decided by students. Component 3 – Listening and Appraising 40% A 1hr 30 minute listening exam. There are 4 Areas of Study. Area of Study A is compulsory and has an associated set work (Haydn Symphony 104 in D Major, ‘London’, movements 1 and 2). The other Areas of Study are: B Rock and Pop C Musical Theatre D Jazz. There are 4 questions in the listening exam Question A is a set work analysis question Question B is an extended (written) response Question C is general listening (unprepared extracts); Question D is a comparison exercise.
