This course is designed to encourage students to develop the capacity to think creatively, innovatively, analytically, logically and critically. Students also learn how computer systems are constructed and organised through learning about software, hardware, data, communications and people. Students also learn to apply the skills, knowledge and understanding of computing, including programming, in a range of contexts to solve problems, Students undertake a series of project based assignments based on real problems that they are required to solve and approach in a systematic way using logical stages of development. Students will be encouraged and require to make logical links between the theory and practical aspects of the course and perceive their field of study in a broader perspective. Students will develop an understanding of the consequences of using computers, including social, legal, ethical and other issues and an awareness of emerging technologies and an appreciation of their potential impact on society.
