What will I learn? This course is designed to give you experiences in the three main musical disciplines of performing, composing, and listening. You will develop your playing skills as a soloist and/ or as a member of an ensemble, performing music of your choice. You will develop compositional techniques that you will apply in your own composition. You will also be given the opportunity to develop your analytical skills, through focusing on listening to music and understanding how it works. You will gain knowledge of good performance techniques and how to work effectively within an ensemble. To support your composition work, you will learn about the theory of music from scales to chord construction. You will also develop a greater knowledge about different genres of music through listening and analysing. You will gain an understanding of how harmony knowledge and practical skills combine to create a well-rounded musician. What skills do I need? Most people who take this course generally have completed BTEC Music in Years 10 and 11 achieving a Pass grade. You should be able to play at least one instrument.
