What will I learn? You will study four pure modules and two applied modules. The pure content includes: • Algebra and functions • Coordinate geometry • Sequences and series • Calculus • Exponentials and logarithms • Trigonometry • Vectors You will be expected to: • use mathematical skills and knowledge to solve problems • understand and demonstrate what is meant by proof in mathematics • solve real life problems using mathematical logic and argument What skills do I need? Mathematics is rather different from many other subjects. An essential part is the challenge of analysing and solving problems and the satisfaction and confidence gained from achieving a ‘correct’ answer. For students wishing to follow this course, a grade B (or better) in Higher GCSE Mathematics is required. How is the course graded? AS level Mathematics is assessed by three written module examinations. A-level Mathematics is a further three written module examination. All Modules are equally weighted.
