If you love watching films, want to see how they are made and how they create the feelings you experience when you watch them, then this course is ideal for you. Film studies is taught by a team of committed staff who use their extensive collection of films and books in the department to really bring the study and enjoyment of film to life. You will study two modules in the first year:- Exploring film form: How micro aspects (cinematography, mise en scène, editing, performance and sound) produce meanings and responses- British and American film: From the studios to the cinema screen including the underlying meanings behind British Horror films and two major Hollywood filmsA further two units are studied in year two:- Film research and creative projects: A chance to conduct detailed research into your favourite film, genre, director or star and create a film sequence through screenwriting- Varieties of film experience (issues and debates): An opportunity to examine films from around the world and the emotional effect different films can have on an audience
