Core Mathematics is the natural extension to GCSE, and ideas such as algebra and trigonometry are extended and new topics such as calculus are introduced and explored. It is theoretical, but is expected to explain ‘real-life’ situations. Mechanics is the study of the motion of objects and how they respond to forces acting upon them. Many of the ideas found in mechanics are used in the fields of cybernetics, robotics, sports science, design & technology, engineering and physics. Statistics is the analysis and representation of information along with the ability to justify your conclusions. You will extend your knowledge of probability to include distributions and perform significance tests to further your statistical processing skills. Students who opt to take Further Mathematics as well as Mathematics will look into these areas in much greater depth over the 2 year course.
