The Government and Politics course will help you understand the nature of politics by giving you the opportunity to develop knowledge, skills and understanding in the context of the politics of the UK, including its local, national and European Union dimensions. You will acquire knowledge and understanding of basic political ideas and develop the ability to interpret and analyse political information presented in various ways, and evaluate arguments, theories, values and ideologies. You will also learn to organise and present a critical argument with relevance, clarity and coherence.

It covers political events and issues, and understanding of the main political viewpoints Paper 1: UK Politics (Paper code: 9PL0/01) Written exam. 2 hours. 33⅓ % of the A Level. Content overview: 1. Political Participation, students will study: Democracy and participation, political parties, electoral systems, voting behaviour and the media. 2. Core Political Ideas, students will study: Conservatism, liberalism, socialism. Paper 2: UK Government (Paper code: 9PL0/02) Written exam. 2 hours. 33⅓ % of the qualification. Content overview: 1. UK Government, students will study: The constitution, parliament, Prime Minister and executive, relationships between the branches. 2. Optional Political Ideas, students will study: One idea from the following: anarchism, ecologism, feminism, multiculturalism, nationalism. Paper 3: Global Politics (Paper code: 9PL0 3B) Written exam. 2 hours. 33⅓ % of the qualification. Content overview: Theories of Global Politics, sovereignty and globalisation, global governance: political and economic, global governance: human rights and environmental, power and developments.
