The course will study historical events of the Ancient World, and you will develop an understanding, appreciation and knowledge of the Greeks and Romans through the buildings, art, poetry, plays and philosophy they have left us. Specifically, the AS Level course will study the role and status of women in Athens and Rome, through extracts from literature, historical writings, and a full length Greek play. There is also a study in some depth of Homer’s Iliad. The A2 course studies the life and achievements of Augustus, the first Roman Emperor. There is also a study in some depth of Virgil’s Aeneid. Students may also have the opportunity to study towards, and to gain, an elementary qualification in Latin.
