Students can develop personal responses to ideas, observations, experiences, environments and cultures in practical, critical and contextual forms. This specification also allows students to develop an awareness of the importance of consumers of Art and Design, as well as gain an understanding of the contribution of artists, craftspeople and designers to society and industry. The breadth of project titles (for example ‘People Watching’) allows students to work in a variety of disciplines according to their interests. Specialist areas of study allow students to experiment with a range of media, processes and techniques appropriate to their chosen area of study. The course is suitable for a range of students who want to develop their interest in, and enjoyment of, Art and Design. We encourage independence of mind in developing their own ideas and producing personal outcomes. Candidates may choose to follow either a broad-based course or a more specialised course. They produce practical and written work associated with two or more of the endorsements below: Fine Art, Graphic Communication, Textile Design, Three-Dimensional Design & Photography
