L1 Professional Cookery

Passionate about food? This is a one year course for students who enjoy cookery and are interested in making catering their career. The course introduces students to Health and Safety and food safety as well as giving them the opportunity to produce different dishes and develop skills using a variety of different ingredients. You will have an opportunity to work in a restaurant environment; cooking food for customers in the College's new training restaurant. In addition we include a skills project in professional Food and Beverage service and an opportunity to progress to level 2. What makes a good course? We believe it is Academic content, Work focused Enrichment, Tutorial, Independent learning, Functional Skills in English and Maths, Learning support.

Name: L1 Professional Cookery Qualification title: Diploma in Introduction to Professional Cookery (QCF) Qualification type: Assessment This course is assessed by regular practical assessment and the completion of a portfolio. There is some written work attached to the course including food hygiene, health and safety and nutrition tests. There are written tests on cooking methods and written assignments.
