This course is suitable for learners who seek to follow a career in the music or media industries. It covers a wide variety of skills used in live performance and composition as well as contextual studies of popular music and music theory. Learners will be taught by experienced tutors and will be given the opportunity to develop their own compositions both individually and within a band. They will develop their skills on an instrument throughout the course both theoretically and practically. There are many opportunities for live performances throughout the course as well as workshops, recording sessions and visits. The course encourages a wider understanding and appreciation of different styles of music and how these enhance the employability of a musician/composer. Students will learn about the music industry, how to deliver community music projects and how to effectively plan and market music events. Learners are expected to be versatile on at least one instrument/vocals and be actively involved in music whether this is in composition or performing. Learners will need to audition for this course and show that they have a good understanding of music theory before the course starts; these will form conditions upon which a place will be offered.
