Access to HE Diploma: Social Work and Related Professions (Eve)

UPDATED 20160118 10:08:55

This Access to Social Work Diploma is a one year intensive evening course for mature students (19+). It is primarily designed to prepare you for future study on an undergraduate Social Work or allied Professional Degree programme. The Caring Profession offers a wide variety of rewarding careers working with adults and/or children within the community. Currently, there is a recognised shortage of professionally qualified Social Workers, so there really is no better time to join this profession. Access courses are designed to provide adults with an opportunity to return to education and gain an A Level equivalent qualification, which is recognised by universities. This is an intensive one year course of full-time study that will introduce you to the subjects you will study at university and help you to develop your study skills, preparing you for undergraduate study. What will I Study: Social Work Practice and Policy. Social Policy. Social Science. Psychology. Academic study skills. GCSE English and GCSE Maths (if you are not already in possession of these qualifications) . . From 2014, universities will require students to have GCSEs in Maths and English, in addition to the Access to Social Work Diploma before being considered for undergraduate training as a Social Worker. If you already have these qualifications (and they are considered to be up to date and viable by the University), you can apply just to follow the main Access programme and will not have to re-take the GCSEs. What can I do after the course: Upon successfully completing the course, you can progress onto undergraduate programmes within the Social Work sector, or other allied related subjects. . . The College also offers undergraduate options for students progressing from Access programmes onto Higher National Certificates through to Degree level study.
