John Bull Has Gone to India: 'Primitivism' in Writing and Art 1850-1940

This course will look at western writers and artists who celebrated 'primitive' and 'oriental' writing and art. We will compare the western writing and art with its influences and sources, to look at how things such as race, nature, the idea of the exotic and women are represented.
