AS/A Level Textiles

UPDATED 20160917 16:33:56

What will I learn at AS level? You will learn how to explore the different approaches and possibilities of textiles using a variety of skills, media and techniques. Understanding is demonstrated through a reflective combination of knowledge and skills resulting in an expressive outcome. Through the completion of a personal investigation you will learn how to investigate an aspect of textiles that really interests you, commonly this is fashion or interior furnishing. You will be encouraged to make links between your own work and the work of other artists and designers, visits to Birmingham (The Clothes Show) and London (museums and fashion boutiques) help to incorporate this element of the course. Your skills and knowledge of observation, developing ideas, experimentation and planning will be tested in a controlled test at the end of AS level (Unit 2). The controlled test is carried out after an extensive period of exploration which is structured in the same format as the personal investigation (Unit 1). What will I learn at A2 level? Study at A2 is an extension of AS Level where you will be given greater creative freedom to explore and develop your work in a specific area of your choice. The A2 course is therefore very much about your individuality as an artist as you are able to dictate the direction of your work. The emphasis at this level is very much on you as an independent learner.
