If you want to learn the skills of how to manipulate oil paint and are new to the media or need a refresher course on colour mixing and oil painting techniques then this the course for you. The course will cover how to use oil paint and the development of paintings in sketchbooks around tutor led projects. Projects will have a historical content for referencing your Art work.There is a structured but relaxed learning plan which will identify your individual needs to help you reach your goals as you continue to practise and develop skills, working from observation and imagination, including keeping a sketchbook and applying the formal elements of art and design. , By the end of the course you will be able to:, Make choices about subject matter and composition in observational sketches, Create form through painting in monochrome, Use oil paint and solvent in varying consistencies, Use different methods of building up the layers of a painting including ground colour and underpainting, Be aware of and work to relevant Health and Safety guidelines, , Anyone who is new to oil paint or would like to refresh their practice in this medium., It is important to note that art courses are practical and require a degree of manual dexterity.,

Entry requirements

If you are a new student and have no materials please wait for your tutor's advice on what to buy. However, all students should bring an A4 sketchbook of good quality cartridge paper, preferably with a hard cover and ring bound and a variety of pencils. You will need to provide your own materials and these will vary in cost according to the course requirements.
