Foodies London- the food and drink capital

UPDATED 20160113 11:12:04

Some twenty years ago, London would not have been considered as a destination for those interested in food and drink. Oh, how that has changed. In a series of walks across the metropolis, we will try and gain an insight to how and why it has now become so attractive to those seeking top level eating and drinking. The first class will meet in the Crypt Cafe of St Paul's Cathedral. From top end Michelin starred restaurants to gastro pubs to corner cafes, London has become a food and drink paradise. London has also been a magnet for people from overseas, bringing with them their culture including their, often exotic, cuisine. A series of six walks looking at the growth of London's food and drink culture, where and why it expanded when it did. To discover through a series of historical walks and archaeological walks the history and geography of various area.Learn about the historical figures which helped shape London in the past and the present. Learn about the historical landmarks and events associated with the area, visit and discuss buildings/ architecture, learn about key people and events. The tutor will impart information orally and will support learning with written resources available either on the day or via the College's Intranet. While the walks are not usually physically challenging, each route may include urban and/or rural roads and will take place in all weathers (except in extreme conditions, when it may be necessary to make alternative arrangements).  Yes, with the agreement of the tutor.
