Studying Literature will develop your reading but also your writing style, and help you to work independently and creatively - skills highly valued by employers and welcomed as an entry qualification to University courses such as English, Journalism, Media, Communication Studies, or Law. At AS level you will study six literary texts over one year. Module 1 - (coursework) - A Midsummer Night's Dream (Shakespeare) and one other play. You will begin studying these texts in September and hand in both essays (1200 words each) by the end of November. The focus of this module is COMEDY. Module 2 - (2 hour June exam) - The Great Gatsby (prose); Enduring Love (prose); 6 poems by Tennyson (poetry); 6 poems by Robert Browning (poetry). You will begin studying the texts when the coursework is finished. Section A of the exam will focus in detail on one text whilst in section B you will write more generally about the other three texts. The focus of this module is NARRATIVE.
