This course will provide you with a knowledge base for a range of careers in the horticulture industry. It will provide specialised studies relevant to individual vocations and professions within the industry and help you develop a range of skills and techniques essential for successful performance in working life. The course is suitable for school leavers and adults who would like a career in the horticulture industry. You will study 10 units in the first year of the programme which will include: * Understand the Principles of Plant Science * Understand the Principles of Soil Science. * Undertake and Review Work Related Experience in the Land-based Industries * Historical Influences * Protected Production * Organic Horticulture A work placement has to be completed as a mandatory part of the course; the placement should be arranged by the learner themselves involving access to horticulture from the categories similar to: * Wildlife * Conservation * Ecology * Commercial/organic horticulture * Parks and gardens All students aged 16 -19 are required to study Functional Skills English and maths qualifications or GCSE mathematics and English if not already awarded a grade A*-C in these subjects. If you have a grade D at GCSE you will study maths and/or English GCSE. Students with a grade lower than D will work towards GCSE through the study of maths and English Functional Skills. Students aged 19+ are strongly encouraged to take relevant maths and English qualifications to support progression into further or higher education, training or employment. All LMC students will receive tutorial support.
