The Edexcel AS and A2 Level Drama and Theatre courses focuses on the practical exploration of performance texts, including exploring them in light of the work of theatre practitioners. The performance texts that will be studied for the written exams will require students to articulate how they would perform in certain roles and interpret a text for performance, putting practical work at the heart of the courses. • AS Component 1: Exploration of Drama and Theatre A group performance of an extract from a play and the performance of a monologue or duologue from a different text. Performances are supported with a portfolio which analyses and evaluates the process of creating and developing your own live theatrical work and the effectiveness of the outcome. • AS Component 2: Theatre Makers in Practice Written examination based on a live theatre performance you have seen and the practical exploration of a play. • A2 Component 1: Devising A devised group performance with supporting portfolio which analyses and evaluates the process of creating and developing your own live theatrical work and the effectiveness of the outcome. • A2 Component 2: Text in Performance A group performance of a key extract from a play you have studied and the performance of a monologue or duologue from a different text. • A2 Component 3: Theatre Makers in Practice Written examination based on a live theatre performance you have seen and two complete plays you have studied.
