Period Corsetry of 18th Century: from Enlightenment to Revolution

UPDATED 20160107 08:45:35

The most common type of corset in the 1700s was an inverted conical shape, often worn to create a contrast between a rigid quasi-cylindrical torso above the waist and heavy full skirts below. Its purpose was to lift the breasts and narrow the waist, creating a 'V' shaped upper torso over which the outer garment would be worn. , , The cone shaped silhouette is often used by contemporary couturiers as a base for the draping of a bodice. This course aims to develop both draping on the stand and flat pattern cutting skills. You will have the opportunity to produce a corset of the period or a boned bodice base on which can be draped a contemporary silhouette for eveningwear, bridal or theatrical use., , Confidence in sewing and some pattern cutting experience is essential to benefit from this course.,
