The ability to draft your own patterns is the key to creating fashion and constructing clothing to your own designs. This advanced level course will enable you to build on your existing skills and further develop a deeper understanding of the principles of pattern drafting and more advanced pattern cutting skills as you learn how to translate information from working drawings, photographs or other images into professional quality patterns., You will be able to devise your own development projects with the tutor and to work through your own plan which may include drafting personal blocks and interpreting body proportions correctly, grading patterns or drafting patterns for your own designs. , It is suitable if you are in further or higher education, already working as a pattern cutter, running your own business, or simply wanting to make high grade working patterns to make up into garments for yourself. , You must have existing intermediate level skills to benefit from this course and to achieve the learning outcomes each term, you must complete module 1 and 2. Tutor approval is required.,

Entry requirements

Ideas for your project will be discussed with your tutor at the first lesson although it would be useful to bring:, - pattern blocks - if you do not have blocks, you will be able to draft your own in class, - paper scissors, Magic/scotch tape, Pritt stick, - calculator, A4 ring binder, - a basic sewing kit: fabric scissors, pins, tape measure , - tracing wheel, dressmaker's carbon paper , - sewing thread, - 2m x 1.5cm wide cotton tape, - notepad and 2/3 colour pens, 4H pencils, sharpener and eraser, Also:, - 'Metric Pattern Cutting' by Winifred Aldrich is the reference book used on the course.
