A Quilt in Three Days

This course will introduce students with a little or some experience who would like to make a small or single bed quilt in 3 days. Students should know how to use a sewing machine and will begin making a single bed sized quilt. Students may choose one of 2 designs to make - one simple, the other more complex. The methods will be fast piecing techniques that are stitched by sewing machine. Fast strip piecing and other techniques will be taught. Machine guided quilting and other quilting techniques will also be taught to enable you to complete your quilt if it is incomplete in the time allowed.

Entry requirements

Please bring 100% cotton dress weight or quilting fabrics NOT upholstery or thick fabrics. All fabrics should be pre-washed if possible., , Simple - Squares Quilt - This quilt measures 42" x 64", 48 squares (6" x 6") of assorted cotton fabrics. , 1½ metres fabric for sashing and border - toning with 6" x 6" squares., 1¾ metres fabric for back of quilt, 48" x 68" Wadding - 2 oz cotton/polyester or polyester., , More complex - Hour Glass Quilt - This quilt measures 51" x 62" finished, *18 pieces of fabric (18" x 22" also called Fat Quarters) in assorted prints - for blocks, border and binding., *3½ metres of fabric for back of quilt., 55"x 66" 2oz Wadding - cotton/polyester or polyester wadding., , Please also bring the following items -, 250m matching threads for piecing - or choose a mid brown or grey, 200m Toning threads for quilting., Bobbins to fit a Bernina Sewing machine - College may supply for £1.00, Note book and pencils or pens., Sewing Kit - including scissors, needles, Stitch Ripper, pins and threads - Please make sure that these are named., Mechanical Pencil for marking quilting lines., 200 Safety Pins for pinning the layers together or Basting Spray 505 (available from quilt shops or on-line.), *own rotary cutter, Equipment required Please bring 100% cotton dress weight or quilting fabrics NOT upholstery or thick fabrics.
