The Raku process involves making specific work to enable it to be rapid fired in an outdoor kiln. This produces glaze surfaces that can't be achieved in indoor electric firings. You are directly involved and become aware of the elements that form Ceramics - Earth, Water, Fire and Air. It's an exciting opportunity to take part in a short course which fully explains the process in detail. You will be using specific clays which contain grog, this makes the clay more robust for the rapid cooling process. Specialist glazes are made to create the distinctive crazing of the surface that the sawdust penetrates to create black lines. On the Saturday you will help to create the outdoor kiln site and take an active part in the kiln firings. You can take the work home after the firings on the day.
