The course will cover the basic techniques and materials used in completing simple structural and finish repairs to antique wooden surfaces. Students should be able to complete simple structural repairs and start to appreciate the refinishing of antique wooden surfaces by the end of the course.Subject will be taught by way of short theory sessions and practical demonstrations followed by supported workshop sessions. During these self-organized sessions students will complete tasks involved in previously discussed projects. To achieve these projects will require the patience and understanding involved in learning a new craft and at times, demanding a range of hand skills, within a group situation.Students achieving success with their initial projects could progress further where they will have the opportunity to develop their basic skills further by way of more demanding projects.

Apart from the usual notebook and writing materials students should bring a small chair, table, box or similar item that is in need of basic repairs to joints and the restoration of surface. All these items will be discussed with the group on the first evening to ensure that all are suitable and appropriate for both course content and students.
