Content - Managing an incident - Roles/responsibilities of employers & employees for first aid at work - Care of the unconscious casualty - Resuscitation (CPR) - Dealing with shock, bleeding, scalds and burns. - Bones, muscles and joint injuries - Recognising major illnesses e.g. diabetes and epilepsy - Record keeping and accident reporting - Communication and delegation in an emergency First Aid at Work certificate, valid for three years, with annual 1/2 day refresher course. The qualification is gained by a short written multiple choice examination and an assessed role play practical situation. Style and Assessment The course will be taught by lecture, demonstrations and practical. Emphasis will be placed on dealing with a casualty in an emergency situation. Students will be expected to take part in role play. Theoretical skills to help understand the nature of the emergency and the physical condition of the casualty. Practical skills to preserve and nature life making the casualty as secure and as comfortable as possible until professional help arrivesNo progression opportunities at this time
