IT Practitioners, BTEC Subsidiary Diploma (Level 3)

A Subsidiary Diploma is equivalent to an A Level. In your first year you will take a qualification equivalent to half an A Level. In your second year you will go on to take a qualification the equivalent of a full A Level. You can take a combination of Level 3 Subsidiary Diplomas and A Levels, or take a Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma alongside a BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma. You will improve your knowledge and practical skills in Information and Communications Technology, including web design and e-commerce, data communications, expert systems and computing. You'll find out about how computer systems work and learn how to use different applications. Assignments are based on workplace situations so you will get a real insight into the careers available in IT and what it is like to work in industry. There are six units, of which four are optional choices Core - compulsory units Communication and employability skills for IT Computer systems. Optional - four units from the following Information systems IT project IT systems analysis and design Communications technologies Computer animation Organisational systems security Software design and development Website production and management Computer animation E-commerce Impact of the use of IT on business systems. How will I be assessed? You will be assessed via coursework-based methods including observation of practical activities, projects, group work, assignments and presentations. What options do I have after completing this Subsidiary Diploma? Dependent upon the units chosen this qualification will suit students who wish to gain practical experience within the IT sector and who want to enter employment in this area. The Subsidiary Diploma earns UCAS points in the same way as A Levels and can, in combination with other Level 3 qualifications, be used by students wishing to apply to university or college.
