This advanced apprenticeship is ideal for people who have an interest and aptitude for work in the Motor Industry. There are around 32 million vehicles on the UKs roads, and all of them need to be serviced, repaired, bought and sold. As such there is a demand for well trained and qualified motor mechanics. As a motor mechanic your role may involve everything from diagnosing the problem accurately and quickly, preparing quotes for customers before commencing work to carrying out the repairs. Preventative maintenance is also a fundamental part of a mechanics job, whereby parts are replaced at scheduled times before failure to avoid far more expensive damage. The mechanic uses both electronic means of gathering data as well as their senses. With the rapid advancement in technology, the mechanics job has evolved from purely mechanical, to include electronic technology. Because vehicles today possess complex computer and electronic systems, mechanics need to have a broader base of knowledge than in the past. Lately, the term auto mechanic is being used less and less frequently and is being replaced by the title automotive technician. Understanding todays computerized systems is essential.
