Introduction to Performance Poetry - taking your poems from page to stage

The aim of this course is for students to increase their skills, knowledge and confidence in performing their own work. The course will examine the nature of performance poetry and how it differs from other forms by exploring different styles and approaches. Through writing exercises, activities and discussion students will be given the opportunity to develop and share poems for performance in the final session What will I achieve? By the end of the course students will have had the opportunity to: - Increase their overall knowledge of performance poetry - Identify and develop the skills and techniques that contribute to a successful performance - Develop a poem specifically for performance - Share experiences and identify individual challenges - Perform their own work in a supportive and constructive environment - Identify potential audiences and further opportunities Tutor: Mary Dickins Mary has been performing her work to a range of audiences for the last twelve years. Her recent poetry airings include Roundhouse Radio, the Sunday Assembly and a residency at Bang Said the Gun in Borough. In June 2015 Mary was also a Poet in Residence for London Open Squares weekend.
