Course summary Makaton is a language programme using signs and symbols to help people to communicate. It is designed to support spoken language and the signs and symbols are used with speech in spoken word order.With Makaton children and adults can communicate straight away using signs and symbolsThe workshop provides a practical introduction for parents and carers who need to use Makaton in everyday situations. What experience or skills do I need to join this course?· No qualifications needed. An interest in early communication skills would be useful.· A certain amount of time for self-study outside of the college is recommended to progress steadily each week.What is the course about?· Sessions include discussing commonly asked questions hints and tips for effective signing and symbol use and how to start using Makaton in everyday situations at home or work.· You will also learn the signs and symbols for Stages 1-4 and additional aspects of the Core VocabularyFor the first session you will need:· A notebook/folder will be usefulAdditional costs and/or resources: · Purchase of manuals is compulsory.
