Social Work - Access to Higher Education Diploma

This Access to HE Diploma course is designed to provide the necessary knowledge and academic skills to study a social work related degree or diploma course at uni. For people who have been out of education for at least one year, who do not have the standard entry qualifications to apply directly for degree courses. The access course is for people interested in careers such social work, criminology or social science related. You study core skills units: Psychology, Sociology, Research Skills, study skills, Maths, Tutorial and Professional Development, plus other specialised units relevant to your chosen pathway i.e. Social Work Practice and Social Policy. You will prepare for diploma or degree level study and there is plenty of support to help you apply for the next stage. The course aims to develop language, study skills and team work through the study of the above subjects. Assessment is based on both home and in-class assignments. Students are expected to study at least 15 hours a week at home as well as time in class.
