Who is the course for: This course has been designed for young people who are planning a career in IT or those already employed in the industry seeking to enhance their knowledge and skills. Course Content: The Level 3 Extended Diploma provides both a broad and a specialist education as a basis for both further training and higher education or for moving into employment. Students can develop the general skills, knowledge and understanding, that underpins a range of occupations or professions within Computing & Information Technology. All students taking the BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in IT study a common first year. In the second year, the students study further common units and specialist units for Systems Support or Software Development, undertaking a major IT Project based on their specialist study. First year: Communications and employability Computer systems Communication technologies Organisational systems security Information systems Procedural programming Principles of software design & development Website production and management E-commerce. Second year: Systems analysis & design Advanced database skills IT project Mathematics for IT practitioners Advanced spreadsheet skills. Systems Support Specialist Units: IT technical support IT systems troubleshooting & repair Computer architecture Network basics (Cisco CCNA1) Routers and routing basics (Cisco CCNA2). Software Development Specialist Units: Event driven programming Client-side customisation of web pages Human computer interaction Object orientated programming Principles of computer networks Developing computer games. Functional Skills are a further element of the course and will enable learners to improve and achieve higher grades in numeracy, literacy and information technology.
