The 90-Credit Diploma is aimed at those who are looking to enter employment at the end of the course. It is broadly equivalent to one and a half A-level's, which means that at the end of the course you can apply for a job starting straight away, an apprenticeship, or progress on to the full level 3 Extended Diploma. The course is made up of two mandatory units plus seven other specialist units that provide for a combined total of 90 credits. The specialist units enable you to study particular areas in depth and are chosen to cover mechanical, electrical and electronic engineering. You must gain at least a PASS in all units to gain the Diploma. Level 3 90 - Credit Diploma in Engineering - Unit 1 Health and Safety in the Engineering Workplace - Unit 2 Communications for Engineering Technicians - Unit 4 Maths for Technicians - Unit 5 Mechanical Principles & Applications - Unit 6 Electrical and Electronic Principles - Unit 7 Business Operations in Engineering - Unit 10 Properties and Applications of Engineering Materials - Unit 22 Fabrication Processes and Technology - Unit 35 Principles & Applications of Electronic Devices and Circuits Assessment: Units are assessed by students completing assignments and written tests, covering a range of criteria. At the end of each unit, points are awarded according to the grade of each unit completed e.g. Pass 70 Points, Merit 80 Points and Distinction 90 Points. The overall grade for your qualification will depend on your total number of points.
