Would you like to gain employment in the uniformed public services sector? This qualification is aimed at helping you progress into employment in this sector or progress onto higher education. Throughout the course you will develop an understanding of the skills needed to prepare for a career in the Police Service, Fire Service, Prison Service, Army, RAF or Navy. You will investigate UK government policies and the democratic election process; develop knowledge of leadership styles and team dynamics; understand the skills, attitudes and values to become a thoughtful and informed citizen; understand and demonstrate self-discipline; provide advice on lifestyle improvements; plan a health-related fitness programme; understand the different methods of fitness training; plan, participate and reflect on outdoor land-based and water-based adventurous activities; gain a knowledge of current UK crime and disorder legislation; develop an understanding of the command and control structure; investigate the roles and responsibilities of the emergency services and understand the criminal trial process in England and Wales. To be successful on the course you will need to be able to solve problems, meet deadlines, work in a team and keep fit. A commitment to studying on a full-time course is essential.
