Sewing for pleasure is designed to show how easy and rewarding it is to make a professional finished piece of clothing. Develop your sewing and pattern cutting skills to make a perfect blouse or shirt. June's speciality is making clothes, and she is also very happy to work with students on their own project, whatever that may be, such as soft furnishings, cushions, curtains etc. For anyone from beginners level to the more experienced sewer wishing to learn tips and tricks to save time and improve their sewing skills and create a good finish. To make a blouse or shirt from a shop bought pattern using industry techniques for the perfect finish. Make soft furnishings, curtains, cushions, patchwork, whatever project you wish to work on. You will be taught to read and understand a shop bought pattern and the wealth of knowledge a pattern holds. Transfer personal measurements to the pattern for the perfect fit. Sewing machine techniques, correct needles, thread tension, seam allowance guides, button holes and machine sewn buttons.How to get the best cut, warp, weft, pin and cut with ease and precision. Garment construction, importance of notches and quick ways of marking the fabric, set in sleeves, one and two piece collars, cuffs, perfect darts, and a whole lot more!

Entry requirements

Fabric for your blouse, thread, buttons and interfacing. Help will be given in the first class to help you choose the best fabric and threads for personal needs and preferences. Sewing equipment, pins, scissors, tape measure etc, note book or folder. Please bring along your own sewing machine if you have one and wish to use it.
