Title of course Skills for Life - English Language Entry 3What knowledge/skills will I learn on the course?The course is for people who have passed ESOL Entry 2 and would like to continue to study at a higher level. All four skills are covered (reading writing speaking and listening) using relevant and interesting topics related to everyday life in the UK. Lessons are linked to the National Curriculum for English Language. Lessons are planned to meet the language needs of the individual learners and to encourage real progress.You will learn how to:Understand spoken language including stories statements questions and instructions.Use spoken language to give information and express feelings and opinions.Read and understand texts and common signs and symbols.Write sentences and texts correctly.Your tutor will give you more information about the course at your first sessionHow will I be taught and will there be any work outside the class?The tutor will use a variety of methods such as presentation pair work and group work. You will practise reading writing listening and speaking. You will be expected to complete homework regularly. You will have access to Sutton Colleges Virtual Learning site for continuous support with your studies. A reading library is also available so that you can borrow books to read at home.How will I be assessed?Continuous informal assessment methods are used by the tutor to monitor students progress and involve observation question and answer and discussion activities. At the end of the course there are optional external examinations. These take place at various times of the year. Your tutor will discuss which exam is appropriate for you to take and will give you the dates and times. What kind of feedback will I get from my tutor?Continuous verbal feedback will be given to the class on your performance and progress. This will be supported by individual feedback where appropriate.
