Beginners will be guided through a series of projects to introduce metalworking skills including texturing metal, cutting out shapes, drilling, and creating forms such as domes and rings. Students will be introduced to soldering, polishing and attaching ready-made findings or fabricating your own to complete a variety of jewellery items. Students who already have these skills will work on independent projects and have the opportunity to follow a program sampling more complex techniques that will vary each term, including enamelling, wax carving, etching, basic hinges and joints, chain making, box making, forging (i.e. a taper), press forming, fold forming, creating hollow shapes, stone setting, fusing and reticulating silver and sand casting.
