The Dance A level develops many transferable skills: time management, leadership, communication, resilience, independent thinking and creative problem solving, as well as the ability to draw together knowledge and observation to analyse sources to construct extended essay type answers, all of which are essential for further study or future employment. This course provides a natural progression for candidates who have studied GCSE Dance but should not be discounted by students who have not previously studied Dance but have a strong interest in the subject. It provides a balanced and broad based course and will prepare learners for a career within the performance world but also other areas should the learner decide an alternative career pathway. This subject works particularly well with: Sciences (Biology, Physics or Chemistry), History, Geography, Statistics, Technology, Psychology, Physical Education, Drama. Students will also be expected to complete leadership experiences by creating their own mini dance company or completing work experience at dance schools and primary schools. The choice of activity will vary each year to suit the strengths of the class. The PE Department has outstanding facilities including two designated theory classrooms with ICT facilities, four badminton court sports hall, dance studio, gymnasium, and a state of the art fitness studio. As part of the Dance course, all students are given free membership to the Fitness Gym.
