Who is the course for? Those who wish to apply for degree courses in Art and Design related subjects What can it lead to? To prepare a portfolio for BA (Hons) degree application or entry into design employment. What will I study? The Exploratory Stage (Rotation and Assignment One - Tutor Set) Unit 1: Information and Research Unit 2: Recording and Responding Unit 3: Media Experimentation A rotation period comes at the start of the course and during these first four weeks you will have the opportunity to experience all the specialist areas and complete an induction project. Sampling each specialist area will help to make the right decisions about each student's future development in art and design. During week three, students will have consultations with their personal tutor who will help advise on choice of specialisms and after discussions you will be asked to select 3 options from the 4 listed below: - Painting and Mixed Media - Photography - Illustrations and Graphics - Architecture and 3D As well as your specialist studies, each week you wll attend the following core studies which are compulsory: - Drawing Studies (including Life Drawing) - ITC (using Photoshop and QuarkExpress) - Cultural Studies Unit 4: Information and Interpretation This unit is delivered through weekly Art History lessons and Contextual Studies viewings and visits. Pathway Stage (Assignment 2 - tutor set) Unit 5: Combined Experimental Studies Unit 6: Media Development Unit 7: Preparation and Progression Confirmatory Stage (Assignment 3 - student set) Unit 8: Integrating Theory and Practice Unit 9: Personal Confirmatory Study For each of the three stages, there are 3 grading themes: Knowledge and Understanding, Personal Development, Manipulation and Translation
