On this course you will have the chance to discover and enhance your understanding of Art and Design through a very practical experience. Taught by a team of practising professional artists and designers, the courses will deepen your understanding of your work and that of others. You will work in both 2D and 3D processes, methods and materials. This work is complemented by lectures, visits to industry, to galleries, exhibitions, museums and sites of importance and interest. Stage 1 introduces you to a wide range of art and design practice; after a short diagnostic period you will choose a broad of specialism from one of the four following specialist subject areas; - Design Crafts including product design, architectural design, ceramics and computer aided design; - Graphic Design including illustration, computer aided design, animation, packaging design, advertising and typographic design. - Textiles and Fashion Design including fashion, pattern cutting, fashion illustration, garment construction, fashion styling, textile printing, fabric manipulation, fashion photography, costume design and computer aided design. - Visual Studies including illustration, sequential design, animation, life drawing and mixed media image making. Stage 2 leads to the extended diploma, and involves further specialisation within your chosen pathway, increased independent practice, and the preparation of a portfolio of work which will prepare you for further progression. Throughout your programme you will have access to outstanding studios and workshops, equipment and resources as well as excellent technical and tutorial support.
